Standards Development Organizations

ITS standards are developed in public-private partnerships between the ITS Standards Program (USDOT) and standards development organizations. Individual ITS Standards contacts are available for each SDO. Note: “NTCIP” (National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol) standards are produced by the NTCIP Joint Committee and are endorsed and published jointly by AASHTO, ITE and NEMA.

  National ITS Reference Architecture
The National ITS Reference Architecture provides the framework in which systems and their interconnections are defined and it is upon this consistent framework that the standards are based. By specifying how systems and components interconnect, the standards promote interoperability.
